i wanted to use this opportunity to highlight some of my favorite british designers. starting of with orla kiely, a dublin born, london based, fashion designer whose print designs are recognized all over the world. orla produces seasonal collections of clothes, bags and homewares all in distinctive graphic prints. the stem print above has become her signature piece and im sure will be known as a design classic in the future.
next up its a truly british style designer who has created a look that suits both town and country homes, cath kidston. her prints appear on a vast range of products from washbags to wallpaper, they are vintage inspired but have in turn become inspirational themselves.

as well as online, and through her own shops you can also find cath kidston’s prints on liscensed goods with the likes of chronicle books and penny kennedy.
emma bridgewater is famous here in the UK for her ceramic tableware. the patterns which decorate her pottery range from fun and cheery to more timeless designs such as the elegant ‘black toast’ range. all their pieces are made in england, and the option to personalise them means they have become popular gifts, especially for weddings.

emma bridgewater’s patterns dont just end at ceramics, they can also be found on kitchen textiles, gift wrap, bags, and tinware.if you are ever in london a visit to the fulham road shop is highly recommended, plus you can paint your own pieces next door in a public studio.
now for something a bit different – sukie is a comapny formed by two graphic designers darrell gibbs and julia harding. this husband and wife team, both graduates from the royal college of art, started selling notebooks and paper goods to habitat in 2000 and havent looked back since. sukie (named after julia’s cat) have now expanded into tea towels, pillows, and more since then.

you can buy sukie products direct from their website, although the are avaialble widely in the usa, and like many of todays hot designers they have products out from chronicle books which are easily obtainable on amazon.
last but not least is my final british designer petra boase. based in norfolk she creates cute whimsical designs made from a collage of fabrics and graph paper. well known as an author for her craft books, petra’s love of vintage pattern reflects in her work. her work with trend forecasters also shows how influential she is in pattern design. so today i’ll leave you with images of petra boase’s beautiful designs. see you tommorow.

Wonderful!
i love emma bridgewater – and someday i’m going to visit their fulham road shop. the last photo (taken during their sale?) is great. i would love to have been there.
Perfect timing! I am visiting London for 6 weeks in April/May and was hoping to find some fantastic places to visit on this site – now I have a couple ideas, at least… Just wondering whether a city guide is on the cards?
