a little bit of detail

when i’m feeling blue or just a little broke (hello, self-employment taxes) i like to window shop for chairs. i guess it’s one of the more harmless vices i could have, provided i don’t start actually buying the chairs. like i mentioned last week, i’m really feeling pulled towards highly detailed pieces of furniture, whether they’re made of rattan, wood, bamboo or some sort of metal. i’m loving these three seating options at gumps sf (that name always makes me laugh). the dynasty chair ($900 for a set of two chairs) has so much detail that a nice, slightly-overstuffed linen cushion would be all that you would need. the iron lattice chair (will be back online soon) has such a pleasing shape that, if i had more space, i’d be tempted to bring them indoors as dining chairs. with a comfy cushion of course. and last but not least, the pagoda armchair ($199) is a simpler take on the look. i’d love to swap out the cushion every few months with something bright and seasonal. it’s such a classic design that it would be hard to go wrong with the fabric. click here for more seating at gumps.

The dynasty chairs are a bit much for me, but have you seen the chloe chair at http://www.bungalow5.com (featured in Oct issue of Harper’s Bazaar)? This is sort of an add-on to earlier posts re lacquered faux bamboo chairs (shared personal obsession).

Chinese classic style. The last white stool in old times usually is in red.
