They do completely custom work – not all of their work is letterpress, but some is – it is whatever style printing the bride wants.

I especially appreciate the studios that included some notion of how they price (instead of just “available upon request”). There are so many beautiful options out there that few customers actually have the time to call dozens of studios for price estimates…

Umm… not to be picky, but the press pictured in your “The History of Letterpress” sidebar thingy is in fact a press used for intaglio printing– the opposite of relief (i.e. letterpress). You might be able to obtain a good press image at briarpress.org.

Thanks for putting this together- it’s a really great resource.

(BTW- the picture on the left under the link to the history of letterpress is of an etching press, not the kind used for letterpress).

Somebody should mention that alot of these companies do not do their own printing. They are great designers, but not techincally Letterpress printers.

I would like to add Superior Letterpress (www.superiorletterpress.com) Mike Coughlin is great! And the prices cannot be beat. After 15 some hours of researching vendors, I found his were the best prices. Great customer service and speed to boot — big thumbs up for Superior Letterpress.

This is a great blog and an awesome resource, thank you for putting it together. Just a comment… if this is a letterpress guide, don’t you think that the only companies that should be listed are companies that actually run and operate presses? A designer is a designer. Letterpress is a craft and the artisans that run presses are worthy of the acknowledgment. Not the designers.

To me, the art of letterpress is both in the printing and the design. To fail to list either would be a shame in my opinion. Thus, I’ve included people who design the actual product and people who print the product. They often work hand in and hand it I think it’s unfair to leave the designer out of of the process, especially if they design exclusively for letterpress printers.
