wall murals

amyuniqlowhen it comes to murals, i’m a changed woman. i used to have a knee-jerk reaction to the word alone- it conjured up images of bad seascapes and fields of flowers. but over the past few years i’ve seen contemporary artists approach the medium in a way that makes me view murals with fresh eyes. some of my favorites? these two pieces by amy ruppel and evan harris. amy and evan created murals for the ace hotel in portland oregon, as well as t-shirts (they’re wearing them) for uniqlo. it makes me want to book a room there right away. I became a mural convert after seeing what Jill Bliss can do. Coincidentally, I was considering booking a room at the Ace for a future trip to Portland … and these murals may have tipped the scale in the hotel’s favor. So thanks for sharing!

I adore the mural at the ACE hotel – I stayed there a month ago and decided to take the stairs one day and just stood there in awe of the amazing work. Thanks for featuring amy and evan!!

Two of my favorite artists! The ACE hotel is oh soooo cool for choosing these fine folks to paint murals.

Awesome work Amy and Evan! When are you going to work on one together?

Evan is doing huge paintings for Amy’s new restaurant in Portland too. I want to see them!

I can’t wait to check the murals out the next time I’m in Portland. They’re so much better than the murals of old, great job by both artists!

I was lucky enough to meet these two amazing artists in person at an opening at the Ace a couple weekends ago, and… wow. Their murals are breath-taking, and they are both such nice people. So glad to see them featured here!
