Jay Schafer is a designer specializing in sustainable architecture and urban planning, and I can’t get enough of these Tiny Houses that he has created. I first saw a glimplse of these houses about 5 years ago and was so intrigued by the idea of living this simply. Schafer has been living in a house smaller than most people’s closet since 1997 and since then building more houses and creating plans that you can purchase off his site to incorporate into your own lifestyle. Whether it is a fun get away in the mountains, a studio in your back yard or a house that you choose to live in on a daily basis these small spaces pack a big punch. Ranging in size from 40 sguare feet to 770 square feet most of these houses can be built and sent to you for under $42,000 or cheaper if you want to do the labor. For more information go here.

Yes! There was one photographed — I think it was one of his — on the end of a skinny dock in a lake. It looked like such a fun little house.
oh my god i love this guy!!
I saw this guy on some show a while ago (i think it was called Small Space, Big Style) and was amazed! It looks like it would be sooo cozy, but I’d miss my space, hehe.
Alyson! Thanks so much for reminding me about Jay!!! I saw him years ago and had forgotten about this amazing “little” project!
