Rachel Whiteread is one of my favorite artists for many reasons. One of them being her use of materials and the process that you see in her finished work. Whiteread is probably most famous for the piece she did in 1993 called “House”, which was a concrete cast of the inside of a condemed row house in London.
Whiteread has cast everything from an old matress to library shelves. I was unable to find a website for her, but you can click here to see some more fo her work. Be sure and check out ” Water Tower”. The image above “Untitled (16 spaces)” might be my favorite piece. They are colored resin pieces that have been shaped by the spaces beneath chairs. How I would love to add those to my chair collection!
