land of decorative details

117.JPG
one of my favorite things about san francisco is the wealth of incredible buildings tucked into every neighborhood. i wasn’t able to shoot all of my favorite spots but i did want to share a few of my favorite buildings that have incredible decorative details. i love the way architects used molding to highlight doorways and window moldings, almost in the way a pastry chef would use flowers and lines to decorate a cake. these were just a few of my favorites in pacific heights, for fun.

one of my architecture teachers used to call these buildings “QuinceaƱera” cakes.

I love the moldings and trims here. If not for their subtle differences, all the houses in this city would look the same.

I agree! Simply lovely! Have you had the chance to see 130 Bush St in the Fiancial District? Its a beautiful hidden gem, but you’ll have to ignore the eyesore restaurant on the first floor.

Whenever I am in SF, I love to just drive around and look at all the beautiful buildings and homes. **Sigh**

HEY!!! that is so cool. You photographed my street!! Pacific Ave. I know those buildings well and live in one very much like the last one you photographed.

The inside is just as wonderful. Hand painted entryway ceilings and in our apartment alone there is decorative filigree on the ceiling and great wainscoating.

I certainly love my neighborhood (Pacific Heights). The buildings are just stunning and I agree that it’s like frosting piping around some of the entry ways.

so cool to spot that!
