eden and eden

of all the stores i visited in san francisco, i’d have to say eden & eden struck me the most. i’d heard such incredible rave reviews from just about everyone i know in the area so it was a must-visit for me. located on the corner of jackson and columbus, eden and eden houses a phenomenally well-edited selection of furniture, artwork, jewelry, clothing, tableware and design-accessories. i was so thrilled to see a shop carrying pieces that i’d never seen before, curated in a such a clear, fresh way. eden and eden’s owner, rachel (a former graphic designer and jewelry designer), also happens to be wonderfully friendly and helpful- which is always a nice surprise in a higher-end design boutique. she made me feel right at home as meg and i poked through everything and agonized over whether or not i’d be able to bring an ice-pick-shaped bottle opener home on the plane (we decided to err on the side of caution and say no).

rachel, being british herself, had a great selection of british artists in the shop, along with some vintage pieces (like the giant button coasters) that added just the right about of quirk to the collection. after three days of hemming and hawing i decided to take home a beautiful porcelain terrier figurine (i know, practical isn’t exactly my middle name) that looked like a mid-century original. though it was based on a mid-century design, it’s produced by a porcelain company in cmielow, poland. the craftsmanship was just too beautiful to pass up. everything about eden and eden oozed a genuine love of beautiful objects and you couldn’t ask for a friendlier owner or shop staff. so if you’re heading to san francisco soon, be sure to swing by eden and eden. i know the next time i’m out west i’ll be heading back for more. [thanks to rachel and her son for being such gracious hosts while we stopped by] there are many more pictures (11 more to be precise) after the jump, so be sure to check them out. the wallpaper, lace dressing-room details and deco doorknob are gorgeous.

Eden and Eden is beyond great.
The product selection is absolutely amazing, so quirky and beautifully displayed. We’re so proud to have them as one of our stockists!
Many thanks for the gorgeous pictures… i can even glimpse two of my designs inside that cage in the seventh picture, Mr Ape and Ms Oink.

Besides our things, i absolutely love the wooden sideboard, the off-white and yellow tea cosies, the cute figurines ( especially the terrier and squirrel ) and also the button coasters.
Just lovely!

Yay! This is one of my favorite shops in SF. It’s not very big, but don’t be fooled — you can spend loads of time in here checking out all of the neat merchandise. I love that Rachel stocks hard-to-find designers from Europe.

Oh yeah. I bought my friends a wedding present there recently, and seriously had to fight not to buy myself a million things. And Rachel really is the nicest.

Amazing store!
Anyone know who makes those lovely ceramic/porcelain animals?

christina

sure! they’re made by a polish company, but their website is down and you can’t purchase online.

they’re basdon designs from the 50s/60s and are handmade in cmielow poland.

Grace,

Please show more of the interiors of the shops you visit. I am almost as interested in the design of the store as I am in the merchandise.

The tape with lace-design is awesome. Both the white and black look great with brown paper. Can someone tell me who makes these tapes?

I LOVE Eden and Eden. I live right by there and try to resist stopping in because I know I’ll end up buying something unique and beautiful even though I’m shouldn’t be shopping. But, I never can resist, so lately my collection of fabulous Tatty Devine necklaces has been growing. And, Rachel (and Michael) are so friendly and welcoming!

it’s been a pleasure seeing all your photos around san francisco. As a resident there are some places I have yet to visit (and this one is even close to my house!). It’s great to see stores and places I love from a different view point and help remind me how much I love this city:)

I asked Rachel about the maker of the bag with the zippers, but all she told me is that it is someone in the UK. She has not yet responded to my follow-up e-mail asking again for the name. Does anyone know?
