Suggested For You

  • What beautiful rooms! Does anyone have any idea where I could find some lamps like the ones in contestant #14 bedroom? I seem them everywhere and I’m in love!

  • I must know where Judith (photo #1) found that fantastic table!

Also, the planter in Amy’s room (photo #9) is super awesome too! Any hints on where to find these two would be most appreciated!

  • hi connor, #14 is my room and i got those lamps at crate & barrel as a gift last year. they are no longer available in that same style, but here are a few kind of similar styles. i’m sure there are some others out there more similar, too! glad you like them!

  • Beth – I was wondering if you knew where the cradenza is from in this photo – I bought what looks like the same thing on craigslist and I’d like to know some info on it. By the way, I love your rug and the paint color combination of the walls/trim. Very cute.

  • “I would love to know where those pillow cases (picture 14, Joy) came from!!”

The pillow cases are from Dwell.

  • Seems none of thesae rooms are used….no clutter or things on the floor or anything

Can you clean my home also

  • CC-
Upholstered headboards are expensive, so I made this one myself. It’s a great DIY weekend project- the substrate is just plywood that I had the friendly folks at my neighborhood home repair store cut into 1′ squares. A little spray adhesive, some foam, yardage from the remnant bin, and many staples later, I used velcro to adhere it to the wall on top of a ledge made from some moulding.
You should give it a try- we’ve recovered this one twice when we’ve grown tired of the fabric.

  • Jen–The three-circle table came from eBay. No one else bid on it so it was inexpensive. Glad to know someone else likes it.

  • I won’t say who I voted for, but I will say my vote went to the room most like the photo *I* would have sent in if I’d had time to take some pictures of my house.

  • What lovely rooms! Wouldn’t it be great to have a site where people could post pictures of their homes like this and talk about them together (as in these comments), get ideas? Is there one like that? I adore #15 – beautiful pillows.

  • I just placed my vote and was thrilled to see so many modern interiors. Can someone tell me where the headboard in Morgan’s room is from (#12)?

  • Arran,
The credenza is actually the base of a Lane wall unit, made in Denmark. I have the upper shelving hard at work in another room. Thank you for the color compliment!

  • It would help if ‘other sites’ opened in a new window so we could return to your site easily once we finished poking about!

  • carol

which links aren’t opening in sep. windows? i’ll fix them right away. i don’t see a link to the words “other sites”

  • morgan and joy (contestants # 12 & 14, respectively): i couldn’t help but notice your bedding. i’ve been on a months-long quest for the perfect bedding…may i ask where you found yours? and the designers, if you know them?? thanks!

  • I have the same Farrow & Ball color card taped to my workroom wall as Heidi does in her photo. I knew I wasn’t the only one who loves those things!

Everyone’s use of color is so lovely, especially Beth’s shades of green. Green is hard to do but when it’s right it looks great!

  • Floating family rocks!.. now thats a family that needs a piece of furniture to ground them.. yes yes yes!

  • Sorry for my slow response, but thank you and I am completely flattered by the interest! I’ll tell you everything I know :)

    Mary T:
The “For Like Ever” poster in my bedroom is from http://www.vllg.com. It comes in two colors, this is the gold version and I couldn’t be happier with it!

Megan: The bedding is from two different places. The pillows and blanket are both from West Elm, but they are a couple of years old and no longer sold. sorry. But-the duevet cover is from CB2 and still in stores (or online).

Lisa: The headboard, bed and side tables are all from Ikea and they are part of the Malm Collection…if you check it out, make sure to see their new jewelry dresser!

    Hope this helps :)

  • I saw house #18 in real. It’s amazing and it’s made by themselves. They worked for three years non stop on it. :-)

that alone deserves them to win ;-)

  • Suddenly I feel very poor after seeing these pictures! Am I the only one who could never afford these kind of furnishings in my rented accommodation?

They are all such lovely rooms. But from what I see, most of them don’t need free furniture, and have hefty wallets to buy their own.

That is what I based my vote on…

  • Its a good thing I told my husband about this contest because my 1917 little bungalow could never compete with the mod rooms here. After I told him about the eames chair he told me all I had to do was ask him…one of his customers is Herman Miller! I didn’t speak for several minutes.

He is in plastic sales and was just in their showroom last week…brought home a table top that we are now using as a train table. I saw the name on it and never made the connection.

    Can you believe that?

  • Yes LuLu, I agree. I believe there are people out there that would get so much love from a chair they could never afford.

  • I just KNOW the people living in house #18 NEED that rockin’ chair-
    1. They ROCK
    2.when the little one comes,
they need it for mommy or daddy to ROCK that baby in!

  • Wio and Joke (number 18 that is) really deserve to win this. They just finished their house in time. They’re getting a baby like this or next month! Huray. And of course that baby will need a lot of rocking (and a tiny bit of rolling). If you’re still undecided, you’re not anymore. grts

  • To me it’s not so much whether they can afford it or not, but what room would have been most impacted. I guess I imagined this contest like the ugly pillow one. What room could have used the chair the most? These are all soooo cool that an Eames rocker would have little impact. All are deserving though. Great design and taste in every room. Just call me Jealous ; )

  • i love these rooms… what great inspiration!

celeste, the blanket on the crib in your picture… so cute! i love that it works in a nursery but isn’t too babyish. is it from a line of nursery stuff? thank you!

  • I have a follow-up question for Andy B about the DIY headboard: do you remember what thickness foam you used? Are you happy with that thickness or would you get it thicker if you were doing the whole thing over? I’m totally going to do the project in my new apt., so thanks for the inspiration!

  • Could those kids in #4 be any cuter? And the dog! They need a great place to read a good book. What a sweet family!

  • Anna – I got the pillows at a local supermarket/home store here in my hometown about 3 years ago – they’ve had many and varied lives around our house since then.

Today’s my birthday and finding out I was a finalist was the BEST birthday present!!! Thank you for the lovely comments.

  • Bux-
I used a very thin foam that was similar in weight to quilt batting for a couple of reasons. First, it’s easier to get precise corners with thin foam, and second, if the backs of the tiles are too thick, they’ll pop off the wall. I’m happy with the thickness of this headboard; it looks quite tailored in person. If you want a plusher look, I’m sure you could go thicker- just be sure to use heavy duty velcro to stick it to the wall (you might even hot glue the velcro to the wood side of the tile.)
I’m so glad you’re going to try this- have fun!

  • Andy B. ….ok. I’m super excited about your DIY headboard and when I saw it I was totally hoping that you’d make it yourself. Nice work!! I think that I’m going to try to make one as well! I’m having sort of a hard time however wrapping my head around the velcro part of it. Did you glue the velcro to the wall? I’m confused. I’m also confused about how you stuck all of the tiles together! I think you need to post a drawing for all us headboard makin’ wannabes!

  • Mo-
The velcro is just stuck to the wall with its own adhesive. However, I did glue/staple gun the velcro to each piece of plywood. Does that make sense? One side of the velcro is just sticky, the other side is sticky + staples. Each tile is also just stuck to the wall individually.
Sorry if this is confusing- I’ll work on a drawing and post it to my blog this week.

  • @pickel

Wio and Joke from house#18 bought their house 5 years ago for an apple and an egg. Since then they have built thic amazing green garden spacecraft in it. It’s totally original and blew everyone away who called them nuts when they bought what once was a totally rampaged house.

Add to that the fact that Joke is pregnant and the continued doing setting roof tops while pregant got us a little bit worried. Yup the baby arrives next month, let’s hope the baby won’t be laying electricity networks within its first few weeks :-)

I think all homes here are beautiful but of course I am totally biased towards voting for wio and joke. I hope you don’t mind :-)

  • Beautiful designs to all!
#12 and #14, I love the paint color on your walls… I’ve been trying to find the perfect blue and you guys have it! what paint is it?… brand and color if possible! Thanks for the inspiration!

  • This question is for Jason (#6), i absolutely love that yellow cabinet. Where did you get it? Was it that finish before or did you finish it yourself?

  • IN #5 AND #13 there is an identical throw pillow with a bare limbed tree design on it. i know i’ve seen this item featured on D*S before but i can’t recall the details…who designs/sells these pillows? (i know i probably can’t afford, so i’m making my own by embroidering a similar design on a homemade pillow case!)
