mellow yellow

thank you to everyone who commented on my keepin’ it real kitchen post. i was blown away by all the amazing ideas. i’m definitely going to incorporate a book shelf where the bench was and consider chalkbord paint for the space with corkboard right now. my immediate plans are to run with something similar to this photo above submitted in the comment section (from the san francisco gate, photo by eric luse). so i’m off to paint the ceiling yellow! and maybe a square behind the book shelf to tie it together (like the AT post suggested in the comment section). i’m going to get a nice white chandelier or pendant, too- i’ll post the results as i go along. in the meantime, here are some great yellow fabrics from joel dewberry (thanks, anon) to go with my yellow ceiling obsession for today…

my mom painted her home office ceiling yellow awhile back and it looks amazing — good choice and perfect for the kitchen!

i just bought that first joelle dewberry fabric a few days ago to make some roman shades. it’s lovely!

That sounds just lovely! Horchow’s having a 20% off sale on their site, today only. Maybe you can find a chandelier/pendant there?

That kitchen from the SF Decorator Showcase was amazing – the best part of the house in my opinion. I have been coveting subway tile and a butler’s pantry ever since – who would think black cabinets would look so good? Looking forward to seeing your version, it was a great color scheme.

Does anyone know where that lighting fixture is from! I love it. And where can you order Joelle Dewberry fabric? I just love this combination!

I also just loved that kitchen – in the SF showcase. The yellow ceiling and the high gloss cabinets really made the room shine… Can’t wait to see how you transform your kitchen!

wow – what a great response that was, i just read it a bit late! if i may add my two bits if not too late. a trick i always do in a rental is i immediately take off the upper cupboard doors. and then paint the inside and out a nice contrasting color against the wall (if the allow you to do that). if they don’t allow to paint, i just take off the doors and paint the inside which is usually cool to do. and then just pile the dishes up in a fun and groovy way….

love the yellow idea – and the shelves are a great idea.

I love the inspiration kitchen. For the fabrics, I prefer the top or the bottom ones. Make sure that your kiwi Dutch pot still looks great in your kitchen.

Last night I bought a pretty tunic at virginiajohnson.com and saw this pretty yellow dot fabric – of course i thought of you! It’s sheer and would make a lovely shade.

oops – the fabric is called dalmatian – $45/yard :O)

framing the bench with narrow bookshelves and making it into a faux window seat gives you seating and 20sqft of storage.
the inside of cupboard doors make great note boards.
