Hello, I’m renting a new home and trying to design my living room. I cant paint the walls but there a nice tan with white trim accents. i have a couch i need to re-upholster and i need curtains that i’m probably going to make. my question is whats a good rule of thumb for picking upholster fabric. i dont want to go to dark and make my room look small but i dont want to wimp out and go to light. i purchased a used persian rug that has tans, light and dark blues, which i was using as my inspiration. the thing about the rug is, it has red in it, and i’m not a big red person.

the only place for me to buy fabric is jo-anns and i’m hesitant to buy fabric off line, plus i’m on a tight budget. so if you could… please help, i’m way out of my league. thanks!
