My thoughts are you may have the "Eggshell" range they brought out a few years ago. They have since changed their glazes and the Mudware is manufactured differently now. I have bought quite a bit of their new range which is a matte finish on the outside and a shiny glaze on the inside. I have found this to be quite hardy and a hell of a lot more chip resistant than the Eggshell range. (I chipped a serving platter from the Eggshell range the first time I washed it). We use our newer plates for everyday serving and have had no chips at all. We have serving platters, bowls and plates. Hope this helps!
