greengelato

i'll post anything i come across. you know what's fun though? getting cheap cotton or linen shades (target, ikea and kmart have decent ones), treating them with a no-bleed fabric treatment and then stamping or stenciling on patterns. i did this obsessively in college. i idolized genevieve gorder from trading spaces and she inspired me to DIY everything i owned. ;)

d*s

ugh, i have 2 naked lamp bases just waiting to be dressed up. they've been sitting all skeletal since august but i can't seem to commit to anything. i asked my husband if i could buy a few "temporary" $5 shades from ross until something perfect comes along but he thinks it's totally irrational. we hate accumulating junk.

it would be awesome if you could post cool lamp shades you come across. i'd love to buy an "indie" shade. :)

robin

it's actually both. i buy maybe 5 things a year from my site so it's wonderful to see that at least one person doesn't think that i buy or think anyone should buy everything from the site. i consider myself a big window-shopper ;)

i just sort of woke up in january and realized that it made sense to invest in nicer pieces of furniture rather than cheaper, trendier pieces. i still give in to trends but i tend to do it in the form of prints, small accessories or stationery.

d*s :)

i have the barrel lamp base along with a very simple off-white cylindrical shade that i purchased at uo for the base - the combination works surprisingly well.

i'm very tempted to purchase another one of the cylindrical shades in pure white to paint or stencil over...

Grace, that makes total sense. I remember your post back in January - I was more wondering if you meant you were personally trying to avoid purchasing items for your home from the box stores or whether it related to the site. Actually one of the things I really appreciate about d*s and that keeps me coming back, is the fact that it is more about design appreciation than consumption. Of course, I would love to own nearly everything you post about, but neither my pocketbook nor my small apartment can support those desires. For now, I'm content to dream.
