this piece made the rounds this week but i had to share it here- the bloomframe is a dual balcony and window designed by hofman dujardin architecten in amsterdam. even if it was installed well something about folding out your balcony would always make me a bit uneasy- but it’s a fun idea to think about. compact living ideas are always a good reminder to try to invest in objects that serve dual functions and let us downsize on the “stuff” in our lives. Velux has had a similar product out for years – < "http://www.veluxusa.com/products/roofWindows/balcony/">. Perfect for folks living on the top floor of an old Victorian.
I don’t think I get the purpose. Why do we need to save space on the outside of the building? Why not just have a balcony?
It IS nifty, though. I’m just not sure of what need it would fill.
Yeah, I have to agree, I don’t really get this concept. You’d need someplace to store what you would keep on your balcony, also. That’s not really space saving…
Thank you for your comments. The Bloomframe window is designed for appartments where traditional balconys are not an option. Let it be clear that we do not have the intention to replace existing balconys. When we have the possibility we create apartments with large outdoor spaces.
