You may consider looking at mid-century dressers. My sister and I had the same search about a year ago and just couldn’t find anything that was small enough. We ended up finding a great low dresser that met our needs. It wasn’t very pricey, so we were able to convert the top drawers (two wide instead of the pictured three wide credenza) into open shelves, and kept the lower drawers as closed storage for CDs, etc. Good luck!

I love these too…I was really lucky about 8 months ago and got a vintage G-Plan teak sideboard on eBay for the total bargain price of 15 pounds {sterling} and in perfect condition too, very similar to the one you show above…so it is worth keeping your eys peeled for vintage online!!

….good too, not to be cutting down any more teak! ;))

I feel your pain, we *finally* found one that was the right lenghth (i.e., less than 6 feet!) after months and months of searching.

In the end we found something that was just barely too long for our station wagon. We had to pull our seats all the way up to the dashboard and then drive 2.5 hours to get it home. It was so worth it though. :)

Auction houses seem to have nice vintage pieces in the $200-$700 range- it might be worth looking there; a lot of them have online catalogues these days.

(I am in Australia though so I’m not sure if the advice translates!)

hi! have a look at the OFFI bench box w/o the padding on top! it’s not so long and looks really nice, and you can store art books below.

What about an Eames Storage Unit (ESU)? Not Danish but timeless and super cool. Modernica sell them but there’s also a place in New Orleans that does very nice quality knock offs (I bought all of my office furniture from them), http://www.modernwoodworks.com.

This is lovely. Although I’m not looking for a Danish piece, I am on the hunt for something to house/hide a small TV. Maybe this could be an idea/topic for a guest blogger–places to hide unsightly electronics. Everything from TVs to stereos and ipods and phones (while charging) and cords. And perhaps it could also cover things that are so beautifully designed that they don’t need to be tucked away.

Oh that Sony Bravia is nice! We upgraded to a 40″ LCD ourselves (a white 40″ Samsung) and we fortunately had an existing rosewood stereo cabinet to play the role of the credenza. Long low furniture and flat panels go so well together…like peanut butter and chocolate. Good luck…I hope you find and post the credenza of your dreams soon!

Since my plasma is mounted on the wall, I’ve been searching for a storage unit to sit underneath it to house the DVD player and DVDs. Glad to know that I’m not the only one searching everywhere for the perfect media storage unit!

we’ve been on an 18-month hunt for the perfect credenza and finally found one at warehouse antiques’ ebay store. we offered them slightly less than their $1500 asking price and the offer was accepted, shipping was reasonable, and they were efficient and lovely when completing the sale.o
