updates: framing

DSC01376

updates to our apt have been picking up slightly lately as we finally saved up enough to make some bigger purchases. a few weeks ago i took in a dozen prints and paintings to be framed at sky art and i’m just now finding places to hang them all. i wanted to share my favorite pieces- a show poster for artist nadine y. nakanishi ($35 right here) and a framed piece of wallpaper by nama rococo. i framed a few more pieces but wanted to share these until i found homes for the rest. more coming soon [ps: people were asking what i thought of sky art and frame and i was really impressed- affordable, fast and they even carried my heavy pieces down and helped me get a cab]

[also, what do you guys think? should we paint the architectural frames on the wall? or leave them the wall-color...]

I would paint the architectural frames lighter. Not white, but maybe two shades up on the same color chip as the wall color.

The pieces are very nice Grace! I personally like the wall frames tonal because it allows your framed pieces to shine rather than compete.

also, what do you guys think? should we paint the architectural frames on the wall? or leave them the wall-color…

Definitely paint them! The same cream or white shade as the radiator would be my choice.

Would be nice to see it painted in a dark shade of what you have.

Another Shade of Grey

If it were me, I would paint the frame and I might even paint the wall inside the frame a third shade. Love the prints.

i have that poster by nadine nakanishi too! but mine is still rolled up with no room to hang just yet. anyway, i really like how mary painted her wall. looks really great. so something along those lines would be beautiful. have fun!

skona

i love the framed wallpaper! so beautiful. i vote for keeping the architectural frames the same as the wall colour.

thanks for your input everyone!

oh, mary- the paint is “senora gray” by benjamin moore. i had hoped it would come out gray-er but the taupe color ended up being really nice ;)

If it were my walls, I’d paint the moulding shiny white. Unless I painted them perriwinkle blue. ;)

Moxie

Hi Grace,
We have similar moulding on the walls and I wanted to paint it white, but even when we taped them off, the paint kept seeping through because the walls aren’t perfectly smooth. If your walls are super smooth, it would be great to go a couple shades lighter or darker. I think it would really add interest to the walls.

Beautiful. Leave it as is.
Also, I couldn’t help but notice your headboard. I’m looking for a new bed with a slatted or clean looking wooden headboard. Do you mind me asking where yours is from?

design*sponge

it’s an ikea bed. nothing too fancy. the malm in oak i believe ;)

I have a kitty the same coloring, but its a little boy and his name is Jack. Maybe an ivory for the walls…

kayte

So pretty!!
i would paint them a different color, maybe a cream.
i think it would be extra cool to paint the part of the wall inside the frame a different color too, but maybe just the one behind the bed.

susan

love the frame job!!! i have to get my stuff down there. … the wall color at 50% might look really nice with the architectural frames…

Definately paint the frame, maybe just the inside of the “frame”

Anonymous

leave them the wall colour! It helps make your apartment look bigger. Plus the eye naturally follows the frame for a frame within frame look.

If you do anything, I’d say paint the wall inside the molding maybe one shade lighter than the wall colour.

bugheart

i adore the pieces
you framed!
thanks for sharing…
how does one go
about getting
nama rococo
pieces?
also…
i like
the architectural frames
the same color
as the wall…
it’s subtle and
won’t draw
attention away
from your art
but rather
subtly
draw the eye to it.

Salut Grace !
Lovely frame work ! I would leave the moldings the way they are , the light and shadow ‘s plays are enough to enhance them . Your Ms Jackson is a beauty . We had a cat just like her , nammed Chichi (short for … Archimède !).He was huge , with beautiful green eyes and he was a big baby .
Ciao !
PS : whatever happened to your aunt’s-red-bookcase-that-was-going-to-be-painted-in-Tiffany-blue ???… ;)

all lovely! thanks for the tip on the framing. i’ve been looking to get some prints framed!!!

YES! Paint the interior of the molding, leave molding as is.

I was particularly struck by what a wonderful contrast Ms Jackson is against that taupe. Hmmmmmm..
