if there’s one thing i tend to invest in the most these days, it would be prints. with the advent of sites like tiny showcase, a whole world of affordable indie art has opened up to habitual online shoppers like myself. i recently discovered we*heart*prints and am now totally hooked. whp tracks and posts affordable prints with links for where you can buy online. most prices are $30 and under, so for that price, you can grab a few as gifts or just to add some personality to a room that needs it. i highly, highly suggest checking out their main page and archives for some great prints. everyone can use a little affordable art (that supports independent artists!). enjoy- i’ll be back tomorrow with a great new podcast! One other resource I absolutely LOVE is http://shop.deviantart.com – i’s an offshoot of the thriving online art community, DeviantArt, and the amount of work available there is nearly mind-numbing. You could look for days. Not all of it is stuff you’ll keep forever, but ordering some prints there is certainly better for someone starting out than buying a bunch of those posters of Bob Marley smoking a joint that everyone seems to have in their first place.
I was going to recommned the we Heart Gocco gallery at Wurst as well. I bought my husband a great print there (it’s the I heart Wood one which is something we joke about a lot.)
What a great site! This was the highlight of my day. I’ve been looking for some great prints that have interesting themes other than the usual coral/birds stuff that’s out there. Thanks!
another great artist you should check out is Amy Ruppel. she makes the sweetest little wax paintings in really subdued colors. they are great as gifts. she has an online sale about once a month and her prices are resonable.

I too have been searching for art and have been totally flustered by the lack direction, variety and am SO happy that you’ve given us these links. I’ve actually bought 4 pieces from tiny and while they’re cute, I’ve yet to do anything with them. I am in desperate need of LARGE scale art. Like 70×40 at least. if anyone has suggestions, it would be really helpful.

I have discovered a site called Etsy (www.etsy.com), which is a sort of eBay for art + craft. I thought of you because they have prints, and cards! And you might end up spending as much time on there as I do… (the site is built really well, which allows for HOURS of interesting browsing).

Help me out here,
Being a big print collector, I have amassed a good number of unframed artwork. Does anyone have a resource for affordable and good looking frames? Its hard to rationalize spending more money on framing than the art itself. Someone once told me of a mail-order frame company in FL; you order the frames to size then assemble them yourself, and buy your own glass. Anyone heard of such a thing?
for framing, try Franken Frames online.

you can order samples of any of the mouldings, then order the frame in the size you need. they sell UV plexi which is a good alternative to glass for larger pieces. you can also purchase archival mat board from them, cut to size as well as all of the other supplies you will need. doing it yourself takes patience but is worth it. I framed 10 photographs of varying size for only $450!!
If you live in NY and don’t want to do it yourself, try Sky Frame in Chelsea. They are reasonable.
