Mr. Samko;s work is very fine obviously, although he does hit the whimsy a tad too much for my taste. Regarding his appropriation of other designer's established forms take a look at the BDDW website and Mr. Samko's. I do think it's fair to say he is more than "inspired" by others.

Wow - a lot of spiteful comments here. Very surprising since Palo's work is considered to be of the highest quality and craftsmanship in Nortg America. Have you seen his 3 bronze butterfly table? Constellation table? Bronze sculpting work. I'd be absolutely embarrassed to look back on these comments and see the condescendence I cast on an honest and talented woodworker because he pays hommage to an American classic. The people who have left such nasty comments here have used such vulgar language to make their points. I hardly think it is appropriate to hand out such judgements and not be held accountable for them. It's too bad you can hide behind anonymity while this man puts his soul out there.

Anyone have any clue where the leatherlounge chair draws inspiration from? I, for one, acknowledge the obvious influences with some of the chairs but im still taken by the craftsmenship. he also seems to fuse influences from a variety of masters. needless to say, most interested in the recycled looking pieces, quirky pieces...and the lounge chair.

The chair in the second image does resemble this Maloof piece: http://americanart.si.edu/search/search_artworks1.cfm?StartRow=3&ConID=6166&format=long

Hey There! Palo is a very good friend of mine through work, i worked with him on a couple of projects, he built 4 beautiful kitchens for me in manhattan... he is an excellent guy with really good work ethics. He is very young and very talented. I think it is OK to get inspiration from the masters like Sam Maloof.
I had to put the comment, felt bad for the guy!
Cheers,
Ozlem
www.uzumgoz.com

To answer Anonymous, Yes to both, being involved and possessing a little knowledge are dangerous dangerous things. too bad all I produce now are numbers, lots and lots of numbers. and yes, I do have a beautiful 'jason' version minguren chair, though I could never sell as my own (god forbid the joiner gods reach up and suck out my finger joints)

as for any controversy, ha! wood is beautiful stuff. I think all of these pieces do the felled wood they were cut from proud.
