i never thought i’d like wall murals, but i’m lovin these. designed and painted by nyc based artist, jason gaillard, natura design solututions‘ murals are interesting ways to bring the peace and quite of nature into your home. i’d ideally put them in a child’s room, but i’m sure someone could make them work in a way that wasn’t too cheesy and like “hey! my wall looks like the ocean!”. jason and his work will be at icff, but be sure to check out his site in the meantime.

Why you gotta hate on wall murals? I have an autumnal forest image going on in my bedroom, and it really adds a bold visual element and balance to the room. Just because you don’t like wall murals (except for the Naturas–which kick ass, btw), that makes them cheesy?

it’s just one sponge’s opinion. not an official doctrine on cheesyness.

ok this is probably not going to prove the non-cheesiness of wall photo murals…I was watching Cribs on MTV (I had the flu, the fever had me delirous)anyway the lead singer of Maroon 5, had a photo mural on the wall behind his bed, which looked really good with the gray headboard of his bed and the surrounding white walls. I think with minimal simple furnishings it could be really elegant… If you want to see the epitome of cheese, check out the latest entry in Apartment Therapy’s small apt contest. I think “Frank” has cornered the market on the cheese.

I love all the stuff posted but I get frustrated to go to yet another cool site, see their awesome products, and be too scared to “contact them” cause I’m sure it’s too expensive for me.

I’m all for designers making a living, but why does good design have to come at such a price?

design*sponge

first price: i know your frustration with expensive design, i can’t afford a lot of this stuff either.

but i feel the need to clarify, this is a personal blog where i post things i happen to think are pretty or well designed. as much as i’d like to be a service that provides affordable design, i’m not. so, with the cheap stuff comes a lot of expensive stuff. with the good comes the bad, it’s just a fact of life. i never claimed to be listing only affordable design. i merely claim to be posting about design i like. and i happen to have expensive taste sometimes. but that said, i understand your woes- i hate that i can’t afford a lot of things i post about too, but that’s just the way the cookie crumbles. i certainly think i provide a home’s worth of attractive, affordable design solutions on a regular basis.

on the mural note: i think it’s funny that the metro paper did a thing on wall murals today. how interesting.

i still stick by my opinion that, PERSONALLY, i find most wall murals to be cheesy. it’s called an opinion, so i’m sorry if you disagree, but it’s not like i’m some official source on what is and isn’t cheesy.

Yo, d*s. It’s all good. One man’s cheese is another’s, um, frommage… I was just stirring it up to get a dialogue going on the subject! Nice to see that people have opinions. (BTW, love the blog. You are one of my daily stops!)
